OPTICS – The lens integrates four aspherical elements into its construction as well as five Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass elements to help minimize various aberrations and distortions throughout the zoom range as well as provide greater image sharpness and clarity. A Super Multi-Layer Coating has also been applied to lens elements to reduce surface reflections, lens flare, and ghosting to produce images with higher contrast and color fidelity.

Its 1.8 F stop can take indoor and low-light outdoor shooting. Its 1.4 F stop can take indoor and low-light outdoor shooting. Its larger f stop makes this lens especially well-suited to astrophotography.
FOCUS – Hyper Sonic Motor, which provides fast, smooth, and near-silent autofocus performance. This focusing motor also enables full-time manual focus override at any time just by rotating the focus ring for refined manual control and focusing as close as 10.6″. A rounded nine-blade diaphragm helps to produce an attractive out-of-focus quality. This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware.
